The appliance is made of surgical stainless steel and gold solder so that it is biocompatible and has no allergic reactions like some metals do. Like the clear Plastic appliances it is “invisible”, but unlike the clear plastic retainers it is functional. Functional means that when the patient chews and swallows (that’s when the teeth contact and the jaws and the masticatory system function) there is no interference with the normal pattern of function. Normal function is the body’s best ally.
